Now that the holidays are fast approaching, it's time to start dragging out the decorations. If you're like most people, you spend a lot of time searching for your decorations each year. Luckily, there's a better way to approach the storage of your holiday decorations. Here are some storage tips that will reduce the amount of energy you need to exert when it comes time to put your decorations back into storage this year.

Save the Packaging

If you're going to be purchasing new decorations this holiday season, don't toss out the packaging. Most people open their decorations and then toss the packaging into the trash. Unfortunately, that makes it more difficult to store decorations for next year. Instead, place the package in a safe place until after the holidays. That way, you can place your decorations back into their original packages until next year.

Think Resealable Baggies

If you hate sorting through your bulbs for the right color combinations each year, or you always end up with a few broken bulbs, it's time to reach for the resealable baggies. You might not realize this, but resealable baggies can take a lot of the work out of storing your holiday ornaments. Once you're ready to take down your holiday decorations, sort or ornaments according to color, and place them in gallon-sized resealable baggies. Once you have your baggies filled, place them in clear plastic storage bins. That way, you can see what you have without wasting time on the sorting. Not only that, but the baggies will help protect against damage.

Keep Your Tree in One Piece

If you have an artificial tree, and you take it apart for storage each year, change the way you do things this year. Instead of taking your tree apart this year, leave it intact and wrap it in plastic wrap. The plastic wrap will seal your tree up tight for easy storage. When you take it out of storage next year, simply remove the plastic wrap and place your tree in the stand. You'll be ready to decorate in just a matter of minutes.

Rent a Storage Unit

If you normally store your holiday decorations in the attic or garage, free up space by renting a storage unit. Renting a storage unit will allow you to keep all your holiday decorations in one convenient location while freeing up a lot of much-needed space in your garage or attic.
